Kerry and Becky Getter founded Balcones Resources in the 90s in Austin, Texas. They set out to build a recycling company that did things differently in three key ways: (1) fostering true partnerships with customers, (2) finding innovative solutions to existing and future recycling problems, and (3) prioritizing the diversion of recyclable materials from the waste stream, which meant avoiding any landfill affiliation. Under these guiding principles, Balcones went beyond commercial recycling and became an innovative market leader. We became the first company to provide commercial single-stream in the State of Texas, with the “Anything that Tears” program. Our entrepreneurial spirit led us to pioneer a consultancy approach to building recycling programs, including waste audits and helping businesses become LEED Certified.
Within a few years, Balcones expanded our environmental services, from developing corporate zero-waste initiatives to launching a residential single-stream program in 2012, allowing us to add municipalities to our list of partners. The City of Austin awarded Balcones part of their residential single-stream recycling contract in 2012, kicking off a new era. Balcones built a $25-million state-of-the-art facility in Austin, the largest capital investment in recycling in Texas at the time. The facility became our flagship, and the staple Balcones reproduces across partner municipalities, always adapting to each community’s unique needs.
After becoming the inaugural investment for Closed Loop Partners’ Leadership Fund in 2019, Balcones gained the ability to expand our operational expertise to new markets, from Texas and Arkansas to Florida and Arizona. Our operations grew from three (3) locations to seven (7) by 2023 (and counting) within just a few years. Further, being part of Closed Loop Partners presents the unique opportunity to significantly contribute toward a circular economy, supporting services that include organics or textile recycling.
As “Balcones Resources” became a moniker for excellence in recycling partnerships, our commitment to doing things differently has remained the same, allowing us to compete against the waste industry giants while leaving no recyclables behind. After all, recycling is our life’s work.
TLDR: Balcones Resources is your partner in recycling and sustainability. Since the 90s, we have helped businesses save money and recover more recyclables with our custom programs. Our impeccable track record allows us to foster award-winning partnerships with smalls businesses to municipalities, processing single-stream residential and commercial recyclables. We were built to be different, and to leave no recyclables behind.

He gave up the pursuit to become a pitcher in the Texas Rangers Organization, while finishing his degree at Texas Wesleyan. According to NASA, several of his ill-fated pitches can still be tracked in orbit today. Kerry graduated from Texas Wesleyan where he received a BA with a major in Political Science. His efforts there led to increased access to recycling opportunities for Austin’s residents and an expanded awareness of the importance of recycling and other landfill diversion activities across the state.
